Climate Change and Older People Workshop success
First national event on the effects of climate change on older people.
The first national event to address impact of climate change on an ageing population was held in York, 26th March, 2008. The Stockholm Environment Institute at the University of York hosted the conference in partnership with the Helped the Aged, the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly and the Policy Research Institute on Ageing and Ethnicity (PRIAE).
The event was attended by key stakeholders from national and regional older people’s organisations, local Government, charities, academics and groups representing the over 50s who listened to key experts on climate change, health and the elderly and took part in a lively discussion about growing old in a changing climate.
Gary Haq led SEI's contribution and undertook a series of media engagements in support of the workshop including Radio York, Radio Hull and BBC Radio 4 'You and Yours'.
