Heads of State and Ministers discuss how to create a climate for prosperity

On the occasion of the state visit by His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden to France, Stockholm Environment Institute and the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (Iddri) have arranged an international symposium on climate and energy.

Environment and climate change is one of the themes of the state visit. This reflects the personal engagement of His Majesty in this issue. For example, the Royal Colloquium 2013 brought together leading researchers to discuss climate, migration and resource use.

This theme has special poignancy as the state visit occurs one year before a major international climate summit (UNFCCC COP21), to be held in Paris under French chairmanship.

The international symposium will be opened by the President of the Republic of  France, François Hollande, and His Majesty King Carl VXI Gustaf of Sweden. The symposium will cover climate change, energy security and economic development. Speakers include the French Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, Ségolène Royal, the Swedish Minister for Energy, Ibrahim Baylan, the Director of the International Energy Agency, Maria van der Hoeven, and the Chairman of the Board of Ericsson and AstraZeneca, Leif Johansson.
