As the climate is changing, society has to prepare for new and partly unknown future conditions – society will have to adapt. NORDCLAD-Net is a concerted effort to bring out the best from Nordic research on adaptation to climate change.
In 2012 the network is concentrating its efforts on organizing the second Nordic International Conference on Climate adaptation. The official call for abstracts is now out and the conference website has been launched. The conference seeks to identify common ground between adaptation research and adaptation decision-making by comparing experiences, reporting new insights and revealing key gaps in knowledge.
The conference is open to scholars and practitioners interested in climate change impacts, vulnerability and adaptation. Invitations are extended to researchers across a range of disciplines, public and private decision-makers, regional and local planners, professionals with a background in risk management as well as representatives of NGOs and international organizations. There will be an emphasis in some sessions on adaptation in a Nordic setting, but participation and experiences from outside the region are also strongly encouraged. Please note that the deadline for submission of abstracts is Thursday 9 March 2012.
A workshop for doctoral students is being organized at the conference venue on 27-28 August 2012 (ahead of the main conference). More information will be provided at the conference website in the upcoming weeks. In case of pressing questions you can contact Adriaan Perrels at FMI: [email protected]
Past activities of the NORDCLAD-Net network net include a postgraduate course in Norway the summer of 2011: “Mitigation and adaptation: conflicting or complementary strategies?”. The course was organized by the University of Oslo, with lecture participation from most of the NORDCLAD-net partners.
Based on funding from the Nordic Top-level Research Initiative Effect Studies and Adaptation to Climate Change, the network has set out to organize two major conferences and offer training to young researchers during the 2010-2013 program period. The first conference, Nordic Adaptation 2010, was held in Stockholm in November with a specific aim to link science, practice and policy.
