Implementability of agro-environmental targets in Estonia

This policy brief focuses on agro-environmental targets as a basis for combating eutrophication in the Baltic Sea caused by agricultural run-off.

It is part of a series of country-by-country policy briefs published by the Baltic Compass project, which promotes sustainable agriculture in the Baltic Sea Region. The brief examines the key national laws applicable to agriculture and nutrient runoff control, provides an overview of agriculture in the country and insights from stakeholders, and makes policy recommendations.

The Baltic Compass project starts from the premise that the 90 million people living in the region deserve locally produced, high-quality food, but it is also important to protect the very vulnerable Baltic Sea. Baltic Compass fosters win-win solutions for the agricultural and environmental sectors to promote a more sustainable rural economy and healthier ecosystems.
