Barriers to and opportunities for climate change adaptation in the Swedish forestry sector
Swedish forestry is one of the country’s most important core industries, and is among the world’s leading exporters of paper, pulp, and sawn wood products. Swedish forestry has often been highlighted as a climate change “winner”, because it is likely to benefit from faster vegetation growth – and therefore the increased productivity – that higher temperatures will bring. However, it is increasingly clear that climate change will also have negative effects on Swedish forests, an insight which affects the needs and opportunities for climate change adaptation in the sector.
