Katarina Axelsson, MSc in Social Science. Her current work focuses on issues related to Sustainable Consumption and Production.

Since 2010, Katarina is responsible for the implementation of the REAP Sweden programme. REAP is a highly sophisticated tool developed by SEI York that helps policy makers to understand and measure the environmental pressures associated with human consumption. The tool is also able to analyze the environmental consequences of different policy options through different scenarios. These scenarios can be set against targets or compared to alternative futures based on different trends or assumptions. Katarina provides training for local authorities in the consumption approach and application of the REAP tool.

When Katarina first started working at SEI in 2001, she was specialized on issues related to institutional development and capacity building. For almost 10 years, she worked as project manager in the SEI Ozone Layer Protection programme, assisting developing countries with the implementation of the Montreal Protocol. In doing this, she focussed in particular on the development of comprehensive government strategies for the phase out of ozone depleting substances and with stakeholder engagement as well as with regional projects for the prevention of illegal trade in ODS through networking and information exchange. She also has experience from international policy work after having participated in numerous Montreal Protocol meetings.

Between 2001 and 2008, Katarina also worked as one of the programme co-ordinators on a programme on Regional Air Pollution in Developing Countries (RAPIDC) which aimed to facilitate the development of regional agreements and protocols and methods to implement measures which prevent and control air pollution.

Before joining SEI, Katarina worked a number of years with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
