Sustainable urbanisation in China

China’s rapid urbanisation has been called the largest migration in recorded history. Within a few decades, China will have hundreds of millions of new city dwellers.
Soon urbanisation will have turned the predominantly rural country into a highly urbanised society. The choices that China makes in this process will have decisive influence on its prospects for a sustainable future.
Poorly constructed cities risk locking China on a carbon and resource intensive path of development for decades to come. The SEI China Cluster explores the challenges and opportunities of urbanization in the transition towards sustainability.
