The Stockholm Environment Institute is pleased to be part of a major international collaboration that has produced Better Growth, Better Climate, an in-depth report that not only shows that economic growth and climate action can go hand in hand, but show countries at different stages of development can do so.
The report, the product of an intensive year of research, analysis and consultations, has been reviewed by an expert team of world-leading economists chaired by Lord Nicholas Stern. It was formally unveiled at a global launch event on 16 September at UN headquarters in New York, attended by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and government, business and finance leaders.
The report finds that there are now major opportunities to achieve strong growth with lower emissions in three key sectors of the global economy – cities, land use and energy. To achieve this growth, governments and businesses need to improve resource efficiency, invest in good-quality infrastructure, and stimulate technological and business innovation. Phase 2 of the project will examine conditions in specific countries and engage with decision-makers around the world.
