SEI Initiatives


We are investing in research on key issues around sustainable development that we are particularly well placed to address. The SEI Initiatives will function as hubs for research supported by both core and project funding.

SEI Initiative on Behaviour and Choice

SEI Initiative BehaviourChoice 140x70 This initiative will examine how to bring about changes in behaviour, choice and decision-making at the household level. By doing so it will support the design and implementation of more effective development programmes and governance interventions.

SEI Initiative on Climate Finance

SEI Initiative on Climate Services

It aims to help policy-makers address the many dimensions of air pollution and climate change, accounting for both near- and long-term considerations.

SEI Initiative on Producer to Consumer Sustainability - P2CS

SEI Initiative P2CS 140x70 This initiative aims to understand the sustainability implications of the evolving trade, production and consumption patterns of major traded commodities in an increasingly resource-scarce and globalized world. By doing so it will support more informed decision-making along supply chains to deliver positive economic, social and environmental outcomes.

SEI Initiative on Sustainable Sanitation - SISS

SISS graphic square online 70 This SEI initiative seeks to inject new momentum into the search for sustainable ways to boost sanitation provision in low- and middle-income countries through new research, knowledge exchange, capacity building and advisory services. It focuses on “productive” solutions that offer multiple benefits in terms of food security, environmental sustainability, livelihoods and health.

SEI Initiative on the Water, Energy and Food Nexus

SEI Initiative Nexus Ethiopia field 140x70 This initiative investigates links across water, energy and food production to enable those who govern and manage these systems to work together to meet human aspirations sustainably.

SEI Initiative on Transforming Development and Disaster Risk

SEI Initiative Disaster nepal earthquake 140x70 This Initiative seeks to integrate disaster risk reduction (DRR) with equitable, sustainable and resilient development. It will carry out context-specific research on a range of disaster risks to pursue development that enables society to take account of new and emerging risks.
