The Ozone Layer Protection programme (OLP) of SEI assists countries in the implementation of the Montreal Protocol. The Montreal Protocol regulates the phase-out of ozone depleting substances and the developing countries are currently in the middle of their phase-out process.
SEI has been contracted by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) to coordinate and implement the Swedish bilateral programme within the framework of the Montreal Protocol and the Multilateral Fund (MLF) since July 1999.
Up to the present date the OLP project portfolio has grown to include 15 approved projects. Seven countries have received Swedish assistance through the OLP and there are also regional projects. The projects are funded by multilateral funds, while the coordination and assistance by SEI is funded by Sida.
The ongoing projects include the implementation of national phase-out plans of ozone depleting substances in Romania, Serbia and the Philippines and a regional project to prevent illegal trade of ozone depleting substances in South Asia and South East Asia and the Pacific.
