Adapting to the Loss of Glaciers in the Peruvian Andes

This project focuses on assessing potential changes in the watersheds of the Andes Mountains in Peru associated with the loss of glaciers due to climate change.

An effort is underway to develop a module within the Water Evaluation and Planning system that represents the evolution of glaciers under different future climate scenarios.

This module will be used to develop WEAP applications of three Peruvian watersheds: the Santa; the Rimac; and the Mantaro.

These applications will be run using climate scenarios developed for the region to investigate the water management implications of the loss of glaciers and possible water management adaptations.
