Global Energy Demand Collaborative

The initiative developed detailed scenarios for ten global regions that describe trends in end-use technologies, efficiencies, usage, saturation, and other relevant characteristics.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a Special Report on Emissions Scenarios (SRES) that described baseline greenhouse gas emissions scenarios for the globe. But these scenarios do not provide sufficiently detailed information related to technology and policy trends. Thus, in 2005, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) in Berkeley, California launched a new modeling initiative intended to help fill some of the gaps in our understanding of future global energy trends.

LBNL chose SEI’s LEAP software as the organizing framework for these scenarios and SEI provided technical assistance to LBNL in their efforts.
