The Water-Energy-Food Nexus in the Inter American Development Bank's 2011 Sustainability Report

This project builds on the SEI work presented at the Bonn2011 Conference: The Water, Energy and Food Security Nexus – Solutions for the Green Economy Effort. It applies the nexus perspective to Latin America and the Caribbean, setting the context for the Inter American Development Bank’s  2011 Sustainability Report.

The nexus model can help the IADB evaluate its actions to promote sustainable development in the region. Clearly the global trends that are driving a nexus approach are relevant here: Income is rising across all social strata, accompanied by increases in both production and consumption.

This accelerated development is linked to globalization and is also accelerating urbanization and concentrating large numbers of poor people in peri-urban zones where they are vulnerable to water, energy, and food availability.
