Sustainable Consumption Institute Flagship Project

2 and 4 degree consumption-based climate change scenarios with a focus on food

This flagship project for the SCI draws together research expertise from the Stockholm Environment Institute, Satake Institute for Grain Process Engineering and the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research to produce a novel suite of food system scenarios addressing both climate change mitigation and adaptation in unison.

This project is novel in a number of respects. Firstly, the project will account for emissions not only generated in the nation of consumption, but across the full supply chain. Secondly, it will look at the potential for climate change to disrupt supply chains. Thirdly, it will develop scenarios that couple both mitigation (emission reduction efforts) and climate change adaptation efforts across supply chains.

The project will explicitly engage key stakeholders both within the formation of the scenarios and as recipients of the results, through scenario workshops, consumer focus groups and a final report launch. Furthermore, significant effort will be made to engage the policy and business communities with this research.
