The health and wellbeing benefits of greenspaces

Can we make more specific ‘greenspace dose’ recommendations?

Physical and mental health issues such as obesity and depression are increasing problems in the UK and hence a policy priority. People are spending less time outdoors and so one promising area is to encourage people to spend time in greenspaces, which is understood to have health and wellbeing benefits. It is unclear, however, if we should be recommending particular activities in greenspaces, such as those seeking to physically and mentally connect people with nature.

This project will bring together environmental and health researchers to understand if more specific ‘greenspace dose’ recommendations can be made to improve health and wellbeing. This will be achieved by assessing the impact of physical, cerebral and generic activities on health and wellbeing outcomes in existing users of greenspaces.
