Title: Senior Communications Officer, UNFCCC focal point

    Marion is a senior communications officer at SEI, with a special focus on climate issues. 

    She works as an editor, writer and publicist, develops and implements communications strategies. Her major projects include leading communications for the SEI Initiative on Fossil Fuels and Climate, the Climate Finance Initiative, and the Climate Services Initiative, and collaborating with SEI partners in the New Climate Economy project. She is also part of the Gender and Social Equity Programme, and works on selected bioenergy, energy access, adaptation and agriculture projects.

    Since 2010, Marion has organized SEI's presence at UN climate conferences. She runs the @SEIclimate Twitter feed, and collaborates closely with researchers, often co-authoring blogs and publications. She cares particularly about equity and social justice issues, including gender equity.

    Prior to joining SEI-US in January 2010, she worked for more than 15 years in journalism, focusing on public education, economic issues, health care, urban development, and innovation. She was a reporter at the New York Daily News and the Providence Journal, and a reporter and managing editor at Providence Business News. She also worked in public relations for Rhode Island School of Design, and owned a live music venue.

    Born and raised in Costa Rica, she is fluent in Spanish and English and also speaks German and French. She has a B.A. in English and history from Georgetown University and an M.S. in print journalism from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, exploring new places, and immersing herself in music and art.
