    Bart Wickel joined SEI-US in July 2013 as a Senior Scientist in the Water Resources Group, based in Davis, CA.

    His research focuses primarily on the conservation of natural resources and ecosystems, and he has worked on this issue in Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala, Russia, China, Uzbekistan and other countries. His areas of expertise include hydrology, remote sensing and GIS spatial planning, climate change adaptation, dams, land-use change and ecosystem services.

    Prior to joining SEI, he was lead hydrologist for WWF-US in Washington, D.C., where he was responsible for the development of tools and methods to support freshwater biodiversity conservation efforts in WWF priority basins and places around the globe.

    He earned an M.Sc. from the Free University Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and a Ph.D. from the University of Bonn, Germany. He has held research positions affiliated with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, EMBRAPA-CPATU (Amazonian Agricultural Research Service, Brazil) and CONABIO (Commission for Biodiversity, Mexico).
