Jon is a social scientist with research interests in participatory and 'bottom-up' development processes.
As a development practitioner (with the NGO Practical Action, up to 2012) his work centred on research for programme and policy influencing in relation to community-based adaptation and food and agriculture. Recently, his focus has been on the potential of participatory planning and social learning processes in adaptation and as a means of accounting for power and social justice in resilience thinking and adaptive governance. His work is informed by an interest in human rights-based and social movement framings of development.
