Matthew Osborne joined SEI in August 2016 and works on Behaviour and Choice Initiative. He is an interdisciplinary researcher who uses a combination of qualitative and quantitative methodologies to explore complex social science questions.

Previously, Matthew has worked on projects in India, Ethiopia, Uganda and Nigeria that looked at intra-household resource allocation norms and intra versus inter-group trust levels at the community and regional level. More recently, at the Stockholm Resilience Centre, he used behavioural games to explore the role of communication and information in the management of common pool resource dilemmas and broader environmental governance issues.

Matthew graduated from the University of East Anglia (UK) with a PhD in International Development, where his research looked at the post-conflict reconciliation process of communities recovering from civil war in northern Uganda.
