    Andreea Raluca Torre is a Research Fellow at SEI Asia. She joined SEI in October 2017.

    She has an interdisciplinary background in modern languages and literatures, social anthropology, sociology and migration studies. She holds a Ph.D in Sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and a MSc in Social Anthropology from University College London (UCL). Before joining SEI, she was a Lecturer in Development studies at the School of Government, Development and International Affairs, The University of the South Pacific (USP), Suva, Fiji. She taught Advanced Research Methodology (a core course for MA and PhD students); Key-issues in Gender and Development; and Feminist Perspectives on Governance and Development.

    Her research interests revolve around the social, political and economic dimensions of migrant lives with a specific focus on the analysis of gendered occupational segregation, global care chains and micro-politics of gender relations. She conducted comparative fieldwork in Italy, the UK, Ukraine, Ecuador, Fiji, Vanuatu and Samoa and her field research has involved the use of multiple qualitative and interdisciplinary research methods combining participant observation, narrative interviews, photo-elicitation, and group-diaries.

    In the Asia-Pacific region, she has also undertaken consultancies for UN offices like UN WOMEN RO for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Singapore and engagements with civil society organisations in Fiji.
