    Simon Okoth is a Senior Project Manager for the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA) and is based at the SEI Africa Centre in Nairobi.


    Simon is leading a consortium of sanitation and hygiene programme implementation partners working in the global South, with the aim of promoting innovation and best practices in sanitation policy, programming, implementation and up-scaling by linking on-the-ground experience with an engaged community of practitioners, policy-makers, researchers and academics.

    He is a WASH development, programming and management specialist with over 14 years of experience in the sector, spanning technology, management, institutional development and partnership building for sustainable WASH interventions in developing countries. After studying engineering at the University of Nairobi, Simon worked with various WASH sector organisations, including Practical Action Eastern Africa, Centre for Women and Youth Development, and the Kenya Water Sector Trust Fund (WSTF) in both rural and urban water supply, sanitation and hygiene programming and upscaling.

    Simon has also supported the development of the Kenya National Environmental Sanitation and Hygiene Policy by the Ministry of Health as well as the Kenya urban water supply and financing concept currently being implemented by Kenya water sector institutions. One of the latest programmes Simon led is the Upscaling of Basic Sanitation for the Urban Poor, jointly implemented by the WSTF and GIZ’s programme on water sector reform.

    His interests are rooted in humanitarian concerns, including eradicating sanitation-related vulnerabilities, and he has a drive and untiring commitment to bringing greater autonomy and dignity to the sanitation sector.
