    William Apondo joined SEI Africa as an intern in July 2017 and is tasked with supporting the implementation of SEI Africa’s Urbanization Programme and the implementation of air quality monitoring research projects at the Africa Centre.

    He is focused on providing direct support to the project Taking forward the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) resolution: Pilot to determine air quality drivers for sub-Saharan Africa. He is also assisting in the project Towards healthy communities: Citizen Science for improved air quality in Nairobi and Addis Ababa.

    Prior to joining SEI, William was a volunteer at the Kenya Meteorological Department in the Global Atmospheric Watch and Pollution Activities section. He holds a BSC in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and is nearing completion of his Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry (environmental analysis) from Moi University. His Master’s thesis looks at the analysis of surface ozone and its contributors with relevance to urban air pollution, using the case of Nairobi County.
