    Toby Reid joined SEI as a Research Fellow/Software Developer in December 2017 to work on the TRASE project.

    Before joining SEI, Toby held a variety of developer roles within both the private and public sectors and has a strong interest in the way digital technology and informatics can be utilised to benefit citizenship, the environment and industry within a global context.

    Toby’s previous experience includes software development, programming and product development at the Interactive Institute AB: an experimental IT & Design Research Institute within the RISE (Research Institute of Sweden) environment. In addition to this Toby has worked at Umeå University as a software developer at ITS Systems and Development, the university’s internal consulting branch, and in a variety of roles at HUMlab, Umeå Universities digital humanities platform, designed to bring together students, researchers, artists, entrepreneurs and international guests to facilitate dialogue and experimentation with technology.

    Toby has a keen interest in the arts and has worked with a variety of artists and organisations assisting in the production of interactive sculptures and artistic spatial environments in both Australia and Sweden.

    Toby has a multi-disciplinary background holding a Master’s of Computer Science from the University of New South Wales in Australia and a Human-Computer Interaction Masters of Informatics from Umeå University in Sweden.

    Toby received both a BSc in Mathematics and BAS in Comparative Religions and Indian History at the Australian National University. His informatics master’s thesis explored a practical prototype driven research methodology for interactive cognitive behaviour therapy.
