    Jamie Kemsey is a communications officer with SEI in Asia. He joined SEI in January 2018.

    He is a writer, editor and communications specialist with over 12 years of experience working for a number of international and regional NGOs, as well as the United Nations. Jamie was previously with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) project Global Strategy to Improve Agriculture and Rural Statistics, where he served as Communications Consultant.

    Jamie has been based in multiple countries in Asia and Africa, including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya, while serving in senior communications and management roles for WWF, IUCN, LEAF (Lowering Emissions in Asia’s Forests), the International Gorilla Conservation Programme, Gunung Palung Orangutan Conservation Program and others.

    He established the initial communications programmes at IUCN’s Global Protected Areas Programme, WWF’s Tigers Alive Initiative and IGCP. He has served in communications capacities at a number of recent global conservation related events, including the first International Tiger Forum, World Parks Congress, World Conservation Congress and the first Asia Parks Congress, where he edited the Asia Protected Areas Charter. He has also written for a number of magazines and newspapers as a columnist and music journalist. 

    Jamie’s special areas of interest are forests, protected areas, species conservation and conservation psychology. 

    He holds a Master’s degree in International Environmental Policy from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, California, USA and a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Clarion University, Pennsylvania, USA.
